ZUHAUSE No. 5 / HOME No. 5 (Vonovia Award for Photography), Vienna 2023
It was only possible for the Vonovia Award for Photography to be presented virtually in 2021 – but its profile has been steadily on the rise since 2017. For ZUHAUSE No. 5, aspiring talent and professional photographers from five continents, aged between 20 and 80, submitted their photo series for the annual € 42,000 prize. This time, two thirds of the participants were female, so it is no surprise that the winners were also an all-female affair. The “Best Photo Series” was won by Julia Autz with While I was waiting (1st), Karina-Sirkku Kurz with SUPERNATURE (2nd) and Jana Sophia Nolle with Living Room, San Francisco & Berlin (3rd); Sarah Grethe won the young talent competition with Manchmal ist der Himmel über uns offen / Sometimes the Sky Above Us Is Open. BUWOG regularly brings the works of all of those nominated for the shortlist of the annual award to Vienna, thereby expanding the reach of Vonovia's activities in promoting art. The constant theme of HOME is illuminated by various generations, cultural perspectives and artistic approaches.
