Contemporary
Contemporary art has numerous forms of expression. In order to do justice to this diversity, we promote a wide range of formats of aspiring as well as established positions. As BUWOG Bau und Kunst, our commitment to culture creates an authentic link between art and one of our main pillars or business areas, the development of residential property. Since 2001, we have been creating art-in-architecture projects, installations and exhibitions in our Customer and Administrative Centre, our residential buildings and in public spaces. We sponsor ideas that we consider relevant to the discourse on art by providing space and financial resources, and we develop concepts together with art institutions at home and abroad in order to place the spotlight on young talents and their works.
The Contemporary section contains all of the stories of art that BUWOG Bau und Kunst has already realised in its categories of ART, EXHIBITION, SPONSORING and COOPERATION as well as those that are currently being created and those we are already contemplating in our real estate projects for the future.
Art
In collaboration with artists and collectives, BUWOG has realised and acquired a wide variety of artworks over the last 25 years, including impressive art-in-architecture projects, outdoor and indoor installations, objects and photographs. Installed on a temporary or permanent basis in the company's own Customer and Administrative Centre as well as in residential buildings developed by BUWOG, art has become an identity-forming factor.
Exhibition
Group exhibitions of established and up-and-coming national and international artists and curators have been regularly held at the BUWOG Customer and Administrative Centre since 2001. Every year, BUWOG Bau und Kunst also presents the shortlist of winners of the Vonovia Award for Photography, which has honoured the “Best Photo Series” and bestowed a “Young Talent Award” for works on the theme of HOME since 2017.
Sponsoring
BUWOG is a long-standing partner providing support to the Vienna State Opera, Theater an der Wien, Salzburg Festival and AzW, the Austrian museum of architecture. Since 2011, the architecture festival TURN ON, Wiener Volksoper, Wiener Konzerthaus and a number of artistic publications and events have also received support. Architecture-related projects in which BUWOG can get involved in both financial and substantive terms are the current focus of sponsorship.
Cooperation
An entirely new field in BUWOG Bau und Kunst’s commitment to art is cooperation with academies and universities in Austria and Germany. The aim is to promote new positions and provide space for their ideas, thereby providing visibility to a wider audience. The thematic constant of COOPERATION is a substantive examination of the company’s core business of architecture, real estate and residential living.
