Martin Kaar: Blue Box

Martin Kaar sought to create the opposite of a random façade design that “could hang anywhere” and with his work responded directly to the architectural characteristics of the former BUWOG headquarters with its protruding and recessed balconies. Into these vertical triangular incisions, the artist appeared to insert two gigantic blue cube constructions, the so-called blue boxes. In reality, they are actually printed on mesh banners, but in the viewer’s perception they merge into an overall structure. Rigid, but in the three-dimensional representation, the geometric cubes are perceived as playfully dynamic through the movement of the viewers and are reminiscent of puzzle-like computer games such as “Tetris”.
