Residential space instead of a car park: introducing BUWOG ATRIO

BUWOG ATRIO is being built in Leipzig, close to the main railway station. The approximately 8,500 m² site was previously used as a car park. Now a residential and commercial ensemble is being built on it.

The six-storey building is located at the corner of Atriumstrasse and Lutherstrasse. In 2020, the project developers TOWNSCAPE and SASSENSCHEIDT sold the site in the heart of Leipzig’s city centre to BUWOG as part of a joint venture. BUWOG began optimising the planning and preparatory construction measures in 2021.

BUWOG ATRIO comprises 259 condominiums totalling approximately 18,600 square metres of residential space. Light-coloured natural stone on the ground floor and plaster bands lend shape to the façade. The one- to five-room condominiums are geared towards the living requirements of various generations and have balconies or terraces, most of which face the quiet courtyard areas. The underground car park provides a total of around 142 parking spaces, some of which are intended for e-charging stations.

The plans by RKW+ Architektur also include seven ground-floor commercial units. Eva Weiß, managing director of BUWOG Bauträger GmbH: “The development of a prime city-centre location must do both: create new residential space while simultaneously offering added value for residents and the surrounding area with the ground floor areas invigorated by commercial and retail space. BUWOG ATRIO also makes an important sustainability-related contribution: commuting to work and travelling to the city’s economic centres can be reduced in the long term.”

With its mix of student and creative life, the Neuschönefeld district has become a popular place to gather in recent years. Schools, daycare centres as well as retail and leisure facilities offer a positive residential environment for families. The location is characterised by good public transport connections and green areas such as the nearby Elsapark. BUWOG ATRIO is just a 10-minute walk from the main railway station.
