The coloneo project was built on the northern edge of Hanau on a 5-hectare industrial wasteland. Around 280 apartments were built on around 2.5 hectares. A tegut store, an Aldi store and a café were built on the remaining area. Additional retail and administrative space was integrated into the residential development, including a branch of the Sparkasse Hanau savings bank, a large law firm, a flower store and a hairdresser.
BUWOG also has its Rhine-Main branch on the site, in the listed administrative building of the former "Dekalin" industrial plant.
The project was developed with the guiding principle of "living in the midst of a functioning infra-structure". The moderately dense coloneo housing development has become synonymous with high quality living in the Hanau area. The project was honored by the Hesse Chamber of Architects with participation in the 2010 Day of Architecture.
History of the residential concept: This project was already completed in 2014 by the company BIEN-RIES, which today belongs to BUWOG Bauträger GmbH and realizes high-quality new construction projects in Frankfurt & Rhine-Main
