On the historic site of the former Köpenick cable factory, between Salvador-Allende-Brücke, Friedrichshagener Straße, and the Spree River, BUWOG is planning a mixed residential and commercial district: CÖPIUS – a BUWOG quarter. With new living space, residential-accompanying commercial facilities, sustainable green spaces, and plenty of room for quality of life on the banks of the Spree.
Two striking historic brick buildings form the entrance to the former Köpenick cable factory and will also form the entrance to CÖPIUS – a BUWOG quarter. Since closing in the mid-1990s, the buildings have been unused and fallen into disrepair, and the site has been left vacant. The district of Treptow-Köpenick is conducting the 9-53 development plan procedure for the approximately 66,000 square meter site. In preparation for the planned new quarter with around 920 apartments, a daycare center, and non-disruptive commercial enterprises, BUWOG began soil remediation, clearance, and disposal of contaminated sites on the former industrial site in October 2024.
