In Darmstadt, BUWOG is starting construction work on a special project. In Heinestraße, BUWOG is developing six apartment buildings with a total of 91 new apartments to be completed in 2024. New housing rather than a drab parking lot – that’s the idea.
Among the distinctive features of the project is that the sealed areas that were previously used for parking between existing buildings are being developed. This will create new residential space with positive environmental features such as green rooftops and photovoltaics. In the first construction phase, BUWOG is now building the first 45 of a total of 91 planned apartments.
BUWOG Managing Director Eva Weiß explains:
“Land is perhaps the most important resource in cities. The new construction project in Darmstadt is an important step towards making optimal use of soil as a resource in an area with excellent infrastructure. At the same time, green rooftops and sustainable residential qualities are being created for the people in the neighbourhood.”
Architecturally, the five new interestingly shaped polygonal buildings will fit well into the open areas between the existing buildings. Another apartment building will provide better noise protection from a neighbouring petrol station. Green rooftops and photovoltaics will improve the ecological footprint of the ensemble.
GREEN ROOFTOPS AND PHOTOVOLTAICS
In the scope of this new construction project, there are plans for a new landscaped garden with areas for recreation and gathering as well as for play areas for children.Completion is scheduled for 2024. The mix of one- to four-room apartments addresses the housing needs of a variety of generations. All of the apartments are planned as rentals, and approximately one third of the new residential space will be subsidised for people with low incomes.
