BUWOG becomes a new partner of the COALITION for TIMBER CONSTRUCTION initiative. The joint alliance strengthens the commitment to timber as a building material of the future.

The COALITION for TIMBER CONSTRUCTION and BUWOG Bauträger GmbH are joining forces to raise awareness of timber as the building material of the future. In joining the initiative, BUWOG as a new partner therefore underscores its commitment to sustainable construction. The aim of the COALITION for TIMBER CONSTRUCTION is to establish timber as a long-term environmentally compatible and resource-efficient building material in the construction industry and to simplify the relevant regulations. The partnership offers important opportunities for both: with BUWOG, the COALITION for TIMBER CONSTRUCTION has gained a leading property developer in the development and new residential construction business. At the same time, the cooperation gives BUWOG the chance to contribute its numerous years of expertise in project development to substantive works, such as the Model Guideline for Timber Construction.

BUWOG currently has a development pipeline of about 55,000 apartments under construction and in planning throughout Germany. For one example, BUWOG is developing Germany’s largest timber construction project from a single source in Berlin: a sustainable development with a total of 166 apartments is being built on a site of approximately 14,000 m² in the Kaulsdorf district.

Daniel Riedl, management board member of Vonovia SE responsible for BUWOG operations in Austria and BUWOG development in Germany: “BUWOG stands for sustainable development and premium new construction. Serial construction and timber-building in its various forms are playing an increasingly significant role, also to create affordable residential space. We look forward to the exchange of knowledge among the initiative’s partners as well as to the shared commitment, particularly to eliminate political obstacles to timber construction.”

Lorenz Nagel, spokesperson for the ambassadors of the COALITION for TIMBER CONSTRUCTION, also emphasises the clear added value of the cooperation: “Our aim is to advance the dialogue on sustainable construction with timber. A conversation focused on solutions and practice is an absolutely essential basis for establishing timber construction in multi-storey buildings. Expertise from this area of business is indispensable for strengthening and expanding our position in the dialogue between policymakers and the industry. We are delighted to speak a common language with BUWOG and to welcome the company to our ranks as another valuable partner – a further milestone for a fruitful dialogue on the resource-efficient construction of tomorrow.”
