BUWOG acquires land in Frankfurt: plans to build 181 new apartments.

BUWOG continues its trajectory of growth: with the acquisition of the property at Mörfelder Landstraße 10–18 in Frankfurt am Main, planning has begun for a new, forward-looking residential development. The 5,345 m² site is located in the popular Sachsenhausen district near the Südbahnhof railway station. The banks of the river Main and Frankfurt City Forest are within walking distance. The seller is VESTERRA GmbH, a joint venture between the two local developers Mainterra GmbH and VESTA-Immobilien. The purchase price has not been disclosed.

The site is currently used for commercial purposes, including an automotive repair shop and garages. Using conventional construction methods, the plan is to build eight new apartment buildings featuring 181 apartments, 25 of them subsidised. The project, designed by Frankfurt-based Stefan Forster Architekten, also includes four commercial units and an underground car park. The building permit for this has already been granted.

BUWOG Managing Director Jens Günther: “The acquisition of this site in a prime development location in Frankfurt is an important step for BUWOG’s continued growth. With this successful transaction, we are also sending a clear message: BUWOG is seeking additional development-ready sites throughout Germany and we want to continue to grow.” BUWOG’s acquisition profile can be found at https://www.buwog.de/en/acquisition-profile.

Jessica Hesse-Kadlec, director of development for BUWOG Region West: “We are delighted that the acquisition of this project will enable us to strengthen our position in the long term while also creating urgently needed residential space for the region. I am particularly proud of the upcoming implementation of the project together with our strong local team. Furthermore, BUWOG is aiming to carry out additional attractive projects in the future, both in the Rhine-Main area and nationwide.”

The buildings are being planned by BUWOG as EH 55 efficiency houses in solid sand-lime brick with a composite thermal insulation system. Some of the apartments will be barrier-free. All available rooftop areas will be intensively or extensively greened, therefore contributing to insulation and the urban climate. Construction is expected to begin in summer 2026, with completion scheduled for the end of 2028.
