“Heimat” style double villa
Gustav Endl – master bricklayer, draughtsman, main foreman, building contractor and architect – developed numerous villas in just a few years, particularly in his home district of Meidling (residential buildings prior to the First World War have been documented, industrial buildings have not). Endl’s villas are generally built in a late historicist style and characterised by imaginative façade decor that borrows from the Biedermeier and Secession styles. The “Heimat” style is a romantic reference to country life and its formal language (gables, etc.) and corresponds internationally to the style of English Reform. The double villa in Vienna’s 23rd district was refurbished by BUWOG and adapted for modern use.
