Eisfabrik Pasettistraße
Jagged parapets, Art Deco motifs and exposed brickwork typical of the period: the so-called “crystal ice factory” is considered a showcase factory building of the interwar period. In the tradition of French revolutionary classicism, its purpose as an ice factory is communicated through the façade design. The assertive architectural language of the industrial building is explained by the rise of working-class culture. Formally and economically outstanding: the largest ice machine in Europe produced 4,000 pieces of block ice a day here. Overtaken by progress, in 1931 the ice factory converted to the production of carbonic acid and dry ice. In 1998, BUWOG revitalised the industrial building for modern commercial use and added two new buildings to the plant (in 1998 and 2001).
