Barnabitenfreihof

First documented in 1582, the Barnabitenfreihof is the oldest building in the district of Währing. The religious order purchased the former farmstead from Countess Lamberg and used it as its official residence until 1875. While the actual chapel was deconsecrated, the former Sala Terrena (16th century) has served as a sacred building since 1986 for the Church of Sweden in Vienna. There is a two-storey garden house in the interior courtyard. Meanwhile revitalised, the building has been preserved in its original state apart from a small number of alterations. In 2017, the ensemble was restored and the façade was returned to its original colour scheme. Parts of the premises were adapted as a residential building.
