Kunsthalle Wien: Beton / Concrete
Vanessa Joan Müller and Nicolaus Schafhausen presented the materiality of concrete in the major exhibition of contemporary artistic works referencing the beginnings of the “concrete utopia” to the current renaissance in “Human Modernism”. The exhibition also shed light on the brutalist, social and ideological aspects of the modern material, which characterises numerous municipal buildings, cultural centres, educational institutions and the urban planning of late modernism, outside the Kunsthalle: visitors were brought to outstanding concrete structures in public spaces, artists’ ateliers and a cement works. In addition to sponsoring, BUWOG was also substantively involved in the project in the panel discussion on social housing.
