Susan Hefuna: Greetings from Cairo

Twelve sections of traditional lattice patterns and woven motifs that allow light to shine through while simultaneously obscuring the view behind can be found on this 307 m2 work. Susan Hefuna references classic scenes of Arab urban architecture and potential insights into another culture that are captured in a skilfully carved border. With Greetings from Cairo, Susan Hefuna continues her interventions in public space titled Mapping Vienna (curated by Grita Insam), with which the German-Egyptian artist has been juxtaposing prominent locations in Vienna (Freud Museum, Presidential Chancellery, MUMOK, Belvedere and Café Korb) with an Arab-influenced context since 2009.
