  • Green and liveable: Low-traffic location with excellent connections and surrounded by greenery
  • The development “An der Schanze” combines sustainable housing with urban living

Living in harmony with nature – a wish that will be fulfilled in the new BUWOG project “drygalski”. Embedded in the new “An der Schanze” urban development area in the 21st district, the 94 apartments will offer idyllic and contemporary housing in a green haven directly on the Upper Old Danube when completed at the end of 2026. The symbolic ground-breaking ceremony on 1 April marked the official start of construction. “After two challenging years for the sector, we are delighted to finally be going on the offensive again and fulfilling our responsibility as a property developer to bring urgently needed residential space onto the market. Starting construction on “drygalski” means that not only has another crucial step been taken in this direction, but a truly exceptional project is also being created in an innovative area in Vienna”, says Andreas Holler, managing director of BUWOG Group GmbH.

Architect Lina Streeruwitz of Studio VlayStreeruwitz paid a visit to the site to see for herself how smoothly the construction of “drygalski’” had begun and personally took up a spade to make the first cut: “The project uses the favourable location to its advantage: On the one hand, life in the new urban development with its range of services is within walking distance, while on the other hand, the residential building is located in a quite area at the edge of activity, facing southward to the Old Danube. To the west is the urban wilderness, which draws a natural green environment into the development. Spacious balconies in every apartment create a strong connection with these marvellous green areas. The building descends southward, offering luxurious terraces with views of the Old Danube.”

District Manager Georg Papai also praises the numerous advantages of “drygalski”: “Floridsdorf is a great place to live. It’s clear what makes our district so attractive: It’s close to Bisamberg, close to the water – the Old Danube – yet you’re in the city in no time. The project offers all of this, says Papai.

The “drygalski” project with around 100 apartments is being built on the site of the new “An der Schanze” urban development area in the 21st district.

Living in harmony with the environment

In the midst of a natural environment, yet in the centre of urban life: The “drygalski” project, a four-storey residential complex planned by Studio VlayStreeruwitz with public green and communal areas directly at the doorstep, is being constructed on the Upper Old Danube in one of Vienna’s most interesting new development areas. The approximately 200 apartments offer floor area of between 45 m² and 150 m². Each unit has a private open area – be it a private garden, balcony, loggia or terrace. Future residents can also look forward to a spacious communal room and a communal terrace. Additional extras, such as a laundry room and a washing station for bicycles and dogs, are also available. The energy supply via district heating is supplemented by a central in-house refrigeration system for the cooling supply and a rooftop photovoltaic system. “drygalski” is located directly in the “An der Schanze” neighbourhood development, where a promising, vibrant, diverse urban development with energy-efficient buildings, urban character, spacious open areas and much more will be created in the coming years. There are numerous shopping, service, sports and leisure facilities in the immediate vicinity. A variety of educational facilities, such as the Donaufeld campus and a kindergarten, are in close proximity, and the city centre can also be reached in just 20 minutes. The apartment prices for the “drygalski” project start at EUR 232,000.
