BUWOG has been winning award after award: the European Real Estate Brand Institute has named the company the strongest Austrian brand in the residential development sector, Dr Ingrid Fitzek-Unterberger, director of Marketing & Communications, has been named CMO of the Year, and BUWOG has won three prizes at the GERMAN BRAND AWARDS.
Every year, the Real Estate Brand Institute – the leading platform for the financial and behavioural, science-based evaluation of brands in the European property sector – honours the strongest brands, bestowing the leading companies and most influential figures in the real estate sector with the prestigious brand award. This year, the awards ceremony took place on 25 June 2026 on board The Pioneer One, the media vessel owned by entrepreneur Gabor Steingart.
The awards are based on the largest scientific brand study in the property sector, for which over 1,500 brands – ranging from property managers to banks and law firms – were surveyed this year. As in 2024 and 2025, BUWOG has once again emerged as the strongest development brand. In its 75th year, BUWOG – the development subsidiary of Vonovia – has been awarded the coveted brand award in the “Developer Residential Austria” category, as well as the “Strongest Growth” award for the brand’s excellent overall performance. The REB Institute’s study puts the brand value at 94.2. Harald Steiner, CEO of the EUROPEAN REAL ESTATE BRAND INSTITUTE, explains: “BUWOG is characterised by quite considerable brand strength, a positive product experience and the development of new business areas. Here, the brand also achieves top scores in recommendations as a result of the sum of all positive assessment criteria.”
Decision-makers within companies also play a key role in building and maintaining a successful brand. The brand study therefore also evaluates their respective brand impact score. This year, Dr Ingrid Fitzek-Unterberger was honoured as “CMO of the Year, Austria” – an award that also recognises BUWOG’s long-standing, rigorous brand-building work in Germany and Austria. Harald Steiner explains the decision: “The consistent expansion of existing communication channels and the development of new ones have had an especially significant impact on the brand’s ability to engage in dialogue.” Since 2022, these communication channels have also included the successful German-language BUWOG podcast GLÜCKLICH WOHNEN, which has so far produced over 80 episodes covering topics such as neighbourhood development, urban development and architecture, as well as BUWOG’s activities in Germany and Austria.
BUWOG also emerged victorious at the GERMAN BRAND AWARDS ceremony held in Berlin on 25 June 2026. This year, the company has received no fewer than three awards – for the strongest brand, in the architecture category, and for its cross-media image campaign, which was developed in-house.
