- New energy supplier oekostrom AG for all four BUWOG locations in Austria
- Commitment to the energy transition with 100 percent Austrian electricity from environmentally friendly, renewable energy sources

BUWOG Customer and Administration Center Vienna
BUWOG is taking another step toward a sustainable future and has been using green electricity at all of its locations since 1 January 2021. The company's locations in Vienna, Villach, Salzburg and Graz will now be exclusively supplied with electricity from renewable energy sources comprising 100% Austrian hydropower, wind and solar power.
Valerija Karsai, managing director of BUWOG, views this as a logical progression for the company: "We are working hard to promote sustainability in every business area. We can achieve plenty, particularly in existing buildings, by making older buildings fit for the climate and for the future." Of course, this also applies to BUWOG's office locations: "In the spirit of an honest corporate culture, we offer sustainable jobs to all of our employees. In addition, by opting for green electricity, we are contributing to a climate-neutral and ecological electricity supply in Austria."
Sustainable jobs
oekostrom AG's product was awarded the UZ 46 eco-label by the Ministry of Food and the Austrian Consumers' Association. It must contain at least 1.4 percent electricity from photovoltaic systems and may also be generated from wind energy, biomass, geothermal energy and hydropower. The share of hydropower must be below 79 percent.
The new supply contract rejects nuclear energy and fossil fuel sources. However, the choice of renewable energy technologies alone does not ensure environmentally friendly operation of the buildings, according to Karsai: "We're aiming for the best conditions for responsible energy use in the workplace, from the desk to the kitchenette. In the new customer and administrative centre on Rathausstraße we have also put an ecological concept into practice that ensures a fairly substantial level of energy efficiency in every respect and is now completed by the use of green electricity."
