The residential project at Vorgartenstraße 98-106 developed together by BUWOG and BEHF Architects has been awarded as one of the 50 best residential developments of 2021.

(Vienna, 24 June 2022) – As part of the Vienna Housing Initiative, BUWOG has constructed a total of 164 rental apartments in four components at Vorgartenstraße 98-106 near Vienna’s former Nordbahnhof railway station. Designed by BEHF, the residential buildings are impressive with attractive green and open areas between the structures and were recently awarded as one of the 50 best residential developments of 2021.

The competition “Residential Developments of 2021” focused not only on the most imaginative building concepts, but also on their optimal use of land and space in a social context. They were selected by a jury of experts.

Formal handover with delighted tenants

On 23 June 2022, a plaque for the “Residential Development of the Year” was placed in a prominent position on the property and unveiled on site by District Manager Alexander Nikolai in the presence of numerous tenants.

“This award makes us very proud, because to be among the top 50 residential developments is a special honour. Moreover, it’s proof that we don’t compromise on quality, even in projects built as part of the Vienna Housing Initiative,” says Andreas Holler, managing director of BUWOG Group GmbH.

“Our concept for the residential complex at Vorgartenstraße 98-106 is in line with the city’s affordable housing policy and ensures the affordability of living space. At the same time, the chosen architectural idiom guarantees timeless quality and tranquillity in a new and dynamic green development area of the city of Vienna,” Stephan Ferenczy, CEO of BEHF Architects, explains.

A combination of a natural and living environment in the midst of the city

“I’m very pleased that affordable and high-quality housing which combines social and architectural qualities is being created in Leopoldstadt. The project is exemplary for the high quality of life in the now rapidly growing urban development area of Nordbahnhof,” District Manager Alexander Nikolai says.

Each apartment has its own open area in the form of loggias or private gardens. Floor-to-ceiling windows create bright, vibrant spaces and allow for a breathtaking panoramic view of the city of Vienna. The two- to four-room apartments range in size from approximately 58 sqm to 111 sqm and have been equipped with open spaces such as terraces, loggias or private gardens. The underground car park offers 82 parking spaces, there is a shop on the ground floor, and the common areas also include a playground for children and young people.
