Kooperationen, Zertifizierungen und Auszeichnungen Nachhaltigkeitsprojekte

We set high standards for our projects: Resource-conserving construction methods, minimisation of soil consumption, a sustainable energy supply and green open space design continuously reduce the ecological footprint of our residential buildings. We have already received numerous awards and building certifications for this. They are important confirmations and signposts for our development in the future.

And because it is a well-established fact that we are stronger together rather than on our own, we also rely on partnerships and cooperations in the area of climate protection.

klimaaktiv pact

In October 2021, BUWOG signed the klimaaktiv pact, the continuation of the klimaaktiv Pakt2020, together with ten other large Austrian companies.

As pioneers of corporate climate protection, we are voluntarily but bindingly committed to jointly reducing our greenhouse gas emissions 57 percent (compared to 2005) by 2030. Our goal thus far surpasses the national climate protection target.

On the right track

By 2020, we were able to significantly exceed the jointly defined targets. Overall, we have already managed a reduction of 2.2 million tonnes of CO2eq (CO2 equivalent) compared to the base year of 2005. This means an annual average of 144,000 tonnes of CO2eq and corresponds to the annual greenhouse gas emissions of around 85,000 cars or 21,000 oil-powered boilers in single-family homes.

Building certifications and awards

Regarding climate change and successful sustainable management, we need to demonstrate scope for action and motivate and inspire one other. That is why awards and seals of approval for environmental protection are especially important to us.

Building certifications are also an essential process for making the extent to which a property is sustainably planned, built and operated visible to owners, tenants and the interested public.

In this context, MARINA TOWER, a joint project of BUWOG and IES Immobilien, was awarded the sustainability certificate from the Austrian Sustainable Building Council (ÖGNI)  in gold - as was the BUWOG project “SeeSee” and our Customer and Administrative Centre at Rathausstraße 1.

The “Kennedy Garden” project received the “Greenpass” certificate in silver.

The BUWOG housing development at Mühlgrundgasse 3 in the 22nd district won the “klimaaktiv”  in gold.

Due to its especially sustainable orientation, our flagship project ERnteLAA won the renowned “International Property Award” as “Best Sustainable Residential Development Europe“.

By means of the ISO 50001 (EnMS) certified energy management system, we can systematically improve our energy performance.

The targets include increasing energy efficiency, reducing energy consumption and reducing energy costs.

Green electricity

All BUWOG locations in Austria are supplied with electricity exclusively from renewable energy sources, from 100% Austrian hydropower, wind and solar power. The oekostrom AG product has been awarded the UZ 46 eco-label by the Federal Ministry of Climate Action and the Austrian Consumers’ Association. It must contain at least 1.4 percent electricity from photovoltaic systems and may also be generated from wind energy, biomass, geothermal energy and hydropower. The share of hydropower must be below 79 percent.
